Q&A - How Can I Lose Weight In Less Than A Week

This question pops up in my inbox several times a week, so here's a chance to set the record straight. First off, is it even possible? If you're asking, "Can I lose weight in less than a week," then you should know first thing that the answer is yes. The problem is that too many people want to try to lose an enormous amount of weight in less than a week, and often it's a truly impossible number.

The first thing to realize if you're going to try to slim down in just a few days is that you won't be able to lose more than a few lbs. Some people, myself included, have lost 5-10 lbs a week, don't expect to get these kinds of results without a proven diet and exercise plan.

If you really want to try to slim down in just a few days, it will take some very strict eating and exercise. Don't take this to mean that you'll have starve, or run on the treadmill for 2 hours a day. If you do that, you're going about it the wrong way. There is a much healthier and easier way to do it.

You will have to exercise if you're going to see any change in your body in a short amount of time. You'll need to do cardio as well as weight training.

For cardio, you should run, jog, swim or bike very intensely in short bursts, then take short rests. Don't just run for some period of time. Instead, run for 30-60 seconds, then rest for the same amount of time or less. During your exercise periods, you should workout as intensely as you can, don't slack off, treat it like a sprint.

When you go to the gym to do your weight training, and you should, focus on exercises that work more than one muscle group. Things like squats, bench press, and rows are going to be your best bet to lose fat fast. Focus on these exercises first, then you can focus on single muscle exercises.
