Every fat loss website in the world has a tip to lose belly fat, some of them work, most of them don't, many of them are just plain old snake oil scams. Because I get emails about this on an almost daily basis, here are 5 secrets to a flat stomach that do work, that are scientifically designed to burn belly fat and get you a flat stomach or the six pack abs you crave.

Ab Exercises Alone Won’t Cut It

Most people who want to shrink their tummy start by doing a bunch of abs exercises, but after a week or so, they soon quit because they just don’t get results. This is because ab exercises don’t create enough metabolic change in your body to effectively burn belly fat. If you want to get rid of your stomach flab, you have to focus on exercises that will have your whole body shedding weight day and night. This isn’t to say core strengthening isn’t important. It is extremely important, and should not be ignored, but core exercises alone won’t get you the midsection you want.

Resistance Exercise

The absolute fastest way to start losing weight is to do full body resistance exercises. Exercises like rows, mountain climbers, squats, lunges, pushups or bench press, and overhead press are all great exercises that build or tone muscle and burn huge amounts of calories.

These exercises don’t burn the calories in the gym though. If you do them right, these kinds of work outs will burn more calories when you’re outside the gym, than when you’re actually putting for the effort to move the machine or lift the weight.

Perform total body resistance training at least 2 times a week.

Cardio

I’ll be honest, I don’t like cardio. I prefer to get in the gym and back out again quickly, and cardio just takes too much time…unless it’s done right. If you want to get a flat tummy fast, you have to have some cardio, so your best bet is very intense exercise for a short period of time.

Here is what you can do:

Get on a bike, treadmill, track, or lap swim pool, and go for 20-45 seconds very intensely, try to move as fast and hard as you can, then stop. Take a short rest equal or less than the time you exerted, and then begin again. Do this same thing 8-15 times and then finish for the day. It only takes a few minutes, but it works wonders for shaping your body in a short period of time.

Diet

If you ignore your diet, then you can expect to fail. You have to eat a healthy diet to have the body of your dreams. Eat raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and low fat dairy for snacks and eat a lean meat and vegetable at every meal. The meat and vegetable should be your main course. If pasta or bread is the mainstay of your diet, it may be harder to get the results you crave.

One last note on dieting, don’t drink your calories! Don’t drink soda, don’t drink juice, put down the energy drink already! This is the first thing you should do when trying to start a healthy diet plan.
